The Neujahr Family Story of the "Twinkies"

Emma and Meesha Neujahr are identical twin sisters from Fort Atkinson, WI, and though they came into this world prematurely, and weighing barely over 3 lbs. each, they came out fighting. Now... they are fighting the battle of their lifetime.

On September 3, 2008, shortly before their second birthday, Meesha was diagnosed with ALL- Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. ALL is a cancer that affects the blood. As the bone marrow rapidly overproduces and releases immature white blood cells called "blasts", it also slows the formation of

platelets and red blood cells, causing the body to become weak and very susceptible to infection. Meesha's treatment began almost immediately, and the Neujahr's lives were changed forever. For over a year and a half, Ashley and Nikki Neujahr, and their daughters, Kiana, Cassidi, Bailey, and Emma, have all had to watch Meesha endure chemotherapy treatments and all of its horrible side effects.

Now, they have received even more heartbreaking news. Over Father's day weekend, the Neujahr's noticed Emma just wasn't herself, and had a minor scrape on her knee that wouldn't stop bleeding. After a trip to the emergency room, they once again were sent to Children's Hospital for further testing. The news was devastating...on June 21, 2010; Emma was also diagnosed with ALL. In less than 48 hours, a happy, healthy Emma was being prepped for her first doses of chemotherapy. The thought of having your child diagnosed with cancer is just heartbreaking, but to have two of your children enduring this awful disease is unimaginable.
